School Breakfast Can FUEL You Child’s Learning!
Is your child missing out on a daily opportunity to improve both his or her health and learning ability? That opportunity is your School’s Breakfast Program.
Benefits of School Breakfast:
In The Classroom
Research shows that eating a nutritious breakfast will provide your child with improved concentration and energy to focus on class work and may improve your child’s test scores.
For The Body
• Eating breakfast lowers fat intake and limits snacking and overeating during the rest of the day.
• California kids who eat school breakfast are more than twice as likely to eat a serving of fruits or vegetables as kids who make their own breakfast.
• In California, 37% of students who eat breakfast at school meet the “5-A-Day” goal, compared to only 17% of kids who do not eat a school breakfast.
• Nationwide, kids who eat school breakfast eat more fiber, Vitamin C and calcium than non-participants.
Find Out if Your School Offers a Breakfast Program -Many Do! Your school may offer:
• Breakfast in the classroom at the start of the school day
• A “Grab-‘n-Go” breakfast from carts located around the school campus or in the lunch room
• A “Second Chance” breakfast provided during a morning recess or snack break
Your school may currently offer Nutritious Breakfast to your child at either No or Low Cost to you!
If your school currently does not offer a Breakfast Program, talk to your school Principal about starting a program. Resources on starting a Breakfast Program are available on www.breakfastfirst.org.

Did you know there is an EASY way to start your day energized and ready to concentrate on school and improve your test scores?
It’s Breakfast at School!
Your school may offer one of the following great tasting ways to start your day:
• Breakfast in the classroom at the start of the school day
• A “Grab-‘n-Go” breakfast from carts located around the school campus
• A “Second Chance” breakfast provided during a morning recess or snack break
What’s for Breakfast? Menus may include items such as fresh fruit, cold cereal and milk, bagels and muffins.
What can YOU do to POWER UP Your School Day?
• Find out if your school has a Breakfast Program and how it works.
• Talk to your parents & friends about the importance of breakfast.
• Arrange to meet with friends before school to have breakfast.
• If your school doesn’t offer breakfast, talk to your student body government about promoting breakfast - go to your Principal about your concerns.
